August sees the
celebration of Belfast Pride 2003 - there's a packed programme of events
planned. We can only fit a few of them here - the Belfast Pride

One highlight for
QueerSpace is the Community Quiz we are
organizing for Monday 28th July in the John Hewitt Bar on
Donegall Street.
And QueerSpace is proud
to bring you the Pride Film Festival - with 3 very different films
covering comedy and horror, all with a queer twist in the tale!

Tuesday 29th July,
Catalyst Arts, North Street Arcade, 8.30pm for 9.00pm
Starring: Keri Jo Chapman, Barbara Lasater
Directed by: Kelli Herd
Azalea Springs is a white Texan paradise only a
short limo-ride from Peyton Place and Stepford. Everyone is rich,
the men are rugged and the women have big hair. Yet scrape a
perfectly manicured fingernail over the veneer and underneath lies a
seething hot-bed of lesbianism and homosexuality. Then at a charity
do, a rumour spreads that there's something in the water that turns
people queer.

Wednesday 30th
July, Catalyst Arts, North Street Arcade, 8pm
Starring: Gotz George, Christian Redl, Jeanette Hain,
Felix Eitner, Angelika Bartsch
Directed by: Hermine Huntgeburth
It’s an odd rule: "No exchanging of bodily fluids within the
team," but then it’s an odd team. Professional con artists Zorbel
and his daughter Lizzie have a vacancy for an able pick pocket.
Enter the very amiable Rudolf: it’s a shame that he’s a crap thief,
it’s a shame that he’s so handsome, but then you can’t have
everything or can you?
German, with English subtitles.

PRIDE: Parade and Party in the
Square*
Saturday, 2nd August, Writers' Square, 12
p.m. (parade leaves at 1.30 p.m.) till evening
|
Following the huge
success of 2002's Party in the Square, this year we return with a bigger
and better line-up. Food and refreshments will be available along with a
bigger stage, where DJs, live bands and your favourite drag queens will
be on stage to provide the ideal wind down to this year's festivities.
There will also be bouncy
castles and face painting for the kids, or even those who want to be
disguised on the parade. And enjoy a selection of music from around the
world on stage throughout the day.
Admission is free and the
venue will be patrolled by marshals to keep everyone safe.
The parade moves off at 1.30 p.m.,
up Royal Avenue to the City Hall where the balloons will be released and
then back down to Donegall Street.
We hope to see you there, and let's make
this year's parade the BIGGEST ever Pride Parade to go kicking
and screaming through the streets of Belfast!
